Boulder County Latina League Awards 59 Scholarships
By Ester Quintana Matheson, Board Member

The Boulder County Latina League (BCLL) just awarded 59 scholarships to Boulder County Latino students. For two decades BCLL has been awarding scholarships to Latino students who greatly need financial resources and encouragement to continue their education in community colleges and universities. In the last 20 years the League has awarded 480 scholarships totaling over $480,000.

BCLL is a non profit organization which was founded by women and continues to be run by a diverse group of women who are dedicated to helping these first generation students further their education and achieve their dreams. Their areas of study include the social sciences, education, medical, engineering and math. Their GPA’s are phenomenal.

As the saying goes, “It takes a village”. Indeed, it takes the concerted effort of many people including the parents, grandparents, teachers, mentors, matching scholarships from various universities, and loyal supporters and donors who believe that this is the right thing to do. We could not do it without them.
